Dance As A Complete Exercise

Are you a person who seeks dynamism in your workout regime? Well, then, dumbbells, treadmill, jogging and the like, are definitely not for you! If gymming, walking, etc. seems hackneyed to you, then you should give dance a try. Here’s why:

1. FUN TO DO

This has to be the number one reason! What on earth could possibly be more fun a physical activity than dancing? There’s music, friends, your fat turning into sweat, excitement, good-looking instructors (just kidding!) and simply something different that can give you good memories.

2. PROVIDES FLEXIBILITY

Unlike any other workout regime, dancing makes you more flexible as you are made to stretch a lot in different ways just like Yoga does, but the former is a more fun activity.

3. ENHANCES BRAIN ACTIVITY

In an article published in the scientific American magazine in 2008, a Columbia university neuroscientist mentioned that while dancing the motor cortex, cerebellum, somatosensory cortex, and basal ganglia showed high level of activity in the human brain. These regions are responsible for control, balance, eye-hand coordination and coordinating movement respectively. Many studies have also shown that dancing can reduce the chances of dementia considerably.
Also, dance reduces stress by increasing the level of serotonin in the blood which makes us feel “good” and happy. Dance can also be a big aid in improving motor deformities caused by Parkinson’s disease from which many of the Indian population is suffering.

4. ESSENTIAL EXERCISE COMBO

Many people are oblivious to the fact that a proper workout is one that involves two types of exercises, namely, aerobic and anaerobic. Dance is that one form of exercise that gives you a 360 degree work out. Jumping, swaying, short running, etc. in Western dance forms are some examples of aerobic activity, whereas, the squat position in Bharatnatyam, balancing as done in Kuchipudi etc. are some examples of anaerobic exercises.  If you don’t want to get into technical and traditional dance forms and want to free style with thumping, invigorating music, then you can try Zumba and aerobics as well. There are many apps that provide you with the facility to book dance classes among other fitness activities in your vicinity.

Now, since another excuse of yours of not working out has been snatched from you, kindly wake up and shake up the groovy way!
